Description:
Bachmann 60916 HO EMD SD40-2 Locomotive BNSF Heritage III #1734
The SD40-2 was one of EMD's best-selling locomotives, with nearly 4,000 units delivered to more than 30 railroads between 1972 and 1989. Today, the vast majority remain in operation, many with their original owners (or their successor railroads), and examples can be found both across North America, and on railroads as far afield as Panama, Brazil, North Africa, and Australia. Designed for a wide variety of mainline and industrial roles, they are powered by a 3,000HP 16-cylinder EMD 16-645-E3 Prime mover. One distinctive spotting feature, when compared against other similar EMD locomotives, is their longer than average end platforms. This Bachmann SD40-2 features realistic, prototypical detail, and comes ready for operation with a factory-installed DCC decoder.
